On May 17, 2017, at 18:00 in the frame of Book Arsenal <\/b>research project Donbas Studies represents the lecture of Prof. Andreas Bock:<\/span><\/p>\n

Ukraine, Syria and the Multifactorial Dynamic of Conflicts<\/b>
\n<\/b>Or: Why we can’t see what there is to see or ignore facts and consequences<\/b>
\n<\/b>
\n<\/span>The speech focuses on the following international issues:<\/span>
\n<\/span>– Annexation of Crimea and the military involvement of Russia in Eastern Ukraine is a flagrant breach of international law<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

– International Law is an inappropriate means for the transformation of international conflicts.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Military escalation in Ukraine is influenced by numerous factors \u2013 like Russian domestic politics or opposed US and Russian interests regarding Syria.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Sanctions and political isolation are historically documented to be counterproductive (e.g. Iran, Cuba, Iraq).<\/span><\/p>\n

Prof. Dr. Andreas Michael Bock <\/b>is Professor for Political Science at the Akkon-University of Applied Science in Berlin. His emphasis is on Conflict Analysis, International Relations Theory and Political Psychology. In his research Prof. Bock focuses inter alia on the dynamic effect that may be caused by so-called enemy images \u2013 regardless if they apply to states, societies or social groups. Andreas Bock runs the blog <\/span>https:\/\/justsecurityblog.wordpress.com\/<\/span><\/a>,<\/span> he also is an author of the book<\/span> \u00ab<\/span>Terrorismus\u00bb (Paderborn: Fink, 2009<\/span>).<\/span><\/p>\n

The open event will take place at\u00a0<\/span>Book Arsenal, Gerbariy Venue\u00a0<\/b>(Kiev, Lavrskaya Str. 12).<\/span><\/p>\n
