On September 27, 2015, 19.00, anthropologist Nadiya Chushak will give an open lecture Industrial Ruins: To Destroy, To Sell or To Remember?, followed by a discussion.

Industrial architecture in the state of decay often confuses us; what can one do with it? The lecture outlines different ways of utilizing the industrial architecture in international context, from the critique of commodification and abstract aestheticization of such buildings and their remnants to re-evaluation of nostalgic sentiments they sometimes evoke.

Nadiya Chushak obtained a PhD in anthropology at the University of Melbourne (Australia). Her research deals with the subject of nostalgia and politics of memory.

After the lecture the open-air film screenings will be held in the courtyard of Molodiozhny Palace of Culture, 17/25 Kharlampievskaya Street, Mariupol. The events are organized by IZOLYATSIA’s representative office in Mariupol, in cooperation with Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival.
